Helping bring awareness about climate change through the stories of people in missions and service.

I work with the interfaith non-profit Texas Impact to connect with people around the world who are serving and doing mission work. I find, hear, and document their stories about how climate change is affecting their service and communities, and how we can help support them through our own actions. Day to day you can find me researching different intersections of climate change, and looking at different denominations, faith organizations, and spiritual leaders who are talking about the climate crisis and taking action in their own communities. With these new connections, Texas Impact and I then put together blogs and webinars to talk with these leaders to share their stories, climate impacts, and the importance of how we can take action and help.
What impact has your project had?
I am currently in the beginning execution stage of the process. I am still researching and connecting with people, but I have also started recording webinars and will beginning blogging shortly.
Why is this project important and/or meaningful to you?
This project is really important to me since I love sharing peoples stories and growing in knowledge and empathy for people by hearing about their lives. That and I was a missionary for a year in Palau teaching high school, and during my time there I got to see the effects of climate change on the island and the people first hand. The Palauan people are very climate aware, and it is one of the country’s that is seeing the major effects of climate change today. Palauan’s take such good care of their beautiful island and community, and seeing how climate change was affecting the people I cared about was a big eye opener for me.
What has your experience been with The 787 Collective?
My experience has been good! It’s been cool coming into a new network of people. This project definitely has lead to my growth in education about the climate crisis. It has given me time to learn and reach out and hear stories of wonderful people who I would have never gotten to connect with.
What would you say to someone who is curious about becoming a campaign leader with The 787 Collective?
Definitely look into it! If you have a cool idea for a project do some research and shoot your shot. The worst thing that can happen is ‘no.’
How has being able to do what you're passionate about affected your spirituality?
It has been good. It’s nice hearing people’s hope and spirituality around climate change. Climate change is such a hard topic to focus on since it can be very heavy and sad, but it’s very uplifting and fulfilling when you hear from people who are seeing blessings from God even in the area of climate.
